VF-2SS Valkyrie II profile by zeiram0034 VF-2SS Valkyrie II profile by zeiram0034
The VF-2SS Valkyrie II is the main variable fighter of the UN Spacy in AD 2092. Development began in the 2060s and the VF-2SS first rollout was in 2072. The VF-2SS first deployment in combat was against a major Zentradi invasion in 2082. Born out of the VF-2 programs, the VF-2SS is a space-optimized craft using a rail gun as opposed to the older gatling gun pods. Like previous generation variable fighters, the VF-2SS can transform into Fighter, GERWALK and Battroid configurations for use in varied combat conditions. For combat the VF-2SS is armed with only a pair of beam cannons in the dorsal fuselage which becomes the head turret in Battroid mode. However, the VF-2SS Valkyrie II is rarely deployed without the Super Armor Pack (SAP) system equipped.

The VF-2SS accommodates a single pilot held securely in the seat by restraint pads that fit into the shoulders of the flight suit rather than using the old lap belts of the VF-1. The cockpit controls utilize HOTAS and the control panels utilize touch screens in lieu of buttons or switches. The throttle and stick are mounted as part of articulated arms attached to the pilot's forearms. The cockpit is spacious and even includes a large cargo compartment behind the main seat, large enough to fit an adult. During the events of the Mardook Invasion, SNN reporter Hibiki Kanzaki was able to sit inside this compartment aboard the VF-2SS fighter of Sylvie Gena.

The Super Armor Pack (SAP) system is an indispensable addition to the standard VF-2SS variable fighter providing the Valkyrie II with far more firepower and additional thrusters for both speed and maneuverability in space. Introduced in 2081 for the VF-2SS fighter, the SAP system was first deployed in combat in 2082 during a Zentradi invasion. Most Zentradi warships serving in the UN Spacy have since been converted with launching arms to deploy the VF-2SS Valkyrie II. Despite the fact that the SAP system can only be deployed in space, it is an integral part of the VF-2SS variable fighter and the Valkyrie II is rarely deployed without the SAP.

The most significant addition to a VF-2SS variable fighter armed with the SAP is the additional armament. Mounted right, left and upon the center dorsal section are three missile launchers each armed with two long-range missiles launched from retractable bay doors. The SAP system also includes a large rail gun mounted on the right side of the dorsal section which can be utilized in Battroid mode by rotating the SAP system 90 degrees to face forward. In Battroid mode the SAP system rests atop the torso and a drop-down plate shields the head unit. The rail gun primary firing mode is complemented with a secondary charged mode for increased power. A large rear facing antennae is mounted on the left side of the center forward boom and a white communications pod is mounted upon the left dorsal side of the SAP. In addition to the main central Super Armed Pack, the SAP system also adds two center ventral/lower arm packs and two rear engine/lower leg packs to the VF-2SS fighter. Each arm unit holds five missile launchers with three mini/cluster missiles each (15 missiles per unit total) as well as a storage bay to accommodate a medium-sized rail gun. The leg units house four missile launchers with three mini/cluster missiles each (12 missiles per unit total) allowing a fully armed VF-2SS with SAP system to carry six long-range missiles and fifty-four mini/cluster missiles. Lastly, the SAP system allows the VF-2SS variable fighter to utilize Auto-Attack Bits, small, armed drones that accompany the VF-2SS. Up to five AAB units shadow the VF-2SS (they cannot attack independently) and utilize two laser cannons each (with a sensor eye). The AAB units can also be sacrificed to intercept incoming fire upon the VF-2SS Valkyrie.

The VF-2SS was aggressively adopted by the UN Spacy and was found deployed in all space bases and carrier ships of the fleet. Though prolific in the UN Spacy, the VF-2SS was rarely found on Earth where the VF-2JA Icarus was the variable fighter used for planet side aerospace defense. During the Mardook Invasion of the Sol System in 2092, the VF-2SS was the primary combat variable fighter of the UN Spacy forces and distinguished itself as a capable war machine even against the vastly superior numbers of the Mardook forces.

My #1 favorite Valkyrie, next to the YF-21 and the VF-25's.

I always thought it was called the "Guardian" mode, not "Gerwalk"

Such an under-appreciated mecha in the Macross mythos, IMO.  I don't care if "Macross II" was rejected for being a bad OVA (even I didn't like it), but that's no excuse for such rejection of the mecha in it.

This (again, IMO) is the true successor to the original VF-1 series, in terms of taking what the original had and amplifying it without overdoing it.  What have all the official successors done?  Forward-swept wings, mind-powered controls, skeletal/petite silhouettes with minimal armor, outrageously over-the-top armor separation... I could go on and on.  The VF-2SS [with SAP] is so streamlined and advanced, yet does not forget its origins.

I desperately want Yamato- er, Arcadia- to make a good-quality 1/60-scale perfect-transforming VF-2SS w/ SAP!  :shakefist:

Pretty much agree with everything you just said :)

Would be pretty sweet if they did release a 1/60 figure but I know it's a longshot.

Then again they did release a 1/60 VF-4 lightning(pretty obscure Valkyrie) so there may be hope yet. :)
